Windows Vista Disaster #3

Network Connections

Having the ability to sort a list usually implies the inability of the user to find an item quickly due to the large list to sort through. Just how many network connections do they think we have?

And why are the column headers showing up in icon view?

And why does the wireless network connection have a wired network connection icon?

Installing driver software - Mark II

Following on from disaster number one...

Ah, but wait a throbbing icon has appeared in the notification area - perhaps that'll divulge some more information?

But no, what appears is slightly better designed dialog showing the same thing. So now we have two dialog boxes, with still no idea what is going on or a way to stop it (and no, the close button doesn't stop the driver installation).

Windows Vista Disaster #1

Installing driver software

Well the sparse look is obviously in at the moment. I can't help thinking somethings missing - what is going on? What part of the install process is Windows doing at the moment? If your going to put me through half an hour of a bouncing progress bar, then at least give me something to look at.

And where is the cancel button? Sure there is a close button, but we all know that won't work as expected - it just hides the window.

And why is the main point of the window - the fact it's installing the Belkin 54g USB Network Adaptor - put in a fudged up title-bar-come-status-bar-at-the-top widget?

This is one of the very few system dialog boxes that is encountered on a regular basis - so why is it the worst designed?
